Hiring a Professional Photographer to Create a Compelling Corporate Group Photo for Your Business

When it comes to corporate websites, having a compelling group photo of your team can make a significant impact on how potential clients or customers perceive your business. The photo of your group can help convey the company's culture, values, and team spirit. However, creating a group photo that looks professional and polished can be challenging. South Atlanta Photography loves helping our clients create visually engaging imagery for their branding and marketing efforts.

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with a client in corporate travel consulting to create a composite group photo for their website's about page. In this post, I'll share some insights and tips on how we collaborated to deliver an impactful image that showcases their team and brand values. These are some of the important touchpoints to consider when creating your own team portrait.

The Client Brief

This might be the most important step in the process. Understanding what the client needs and what they want to use an image for determines how everything else moves forward. Before the shoot, we had a meeting with the client's marketing team to discuss their vision for the group photo. They wanted to showcase their team's diverse perspectives, expertise, and collaborative spirit while also conveying a sense of professionalism and approachability. The final image needed to be consistent with their brand colors and elevated website aesthetic. Further, the image needed to have some flexibility to add or remove individuals as the company grew and changed.

The Shoot

Based on the client brief, I suggested a simple yet effective approach to the photographs in order to composite a larger group shot later on in the post-production process. We decided to photograph each team member individually against a neutral background to ensure consistency in lighting and perspective. During the shoot, I made sure to capture a range of expressions and poses to give the client options to choose the best shot of each individual for the final composite image.

Post-Production

Once we had all the individual shots, we worked on the post-production to create the final composite image. This involved communication with the marketing team to carefully select the best images for each team member. With a rough idea in place about how we would arrange each person, final poses were selected, considering body positions that would all be facing in towards the middle where the CEO stands face-on. Next, each individual’s final image was commercially retouched, not only cleaning up blemishes, but also ensuring a consistent exposure and color balance throughout the group. Everybody needed to look like they were all shot in the exact same lighting conditions for this concept to be pulled off seamlessly. The final stage in post-production was to decide on a background. The marketing team liked the idea of feeling like they were in an elevated space, but that it should not be recognizable. We came up with a very softly blurred shot of modernist commercial space nearby, allowing the lighting to create a bit of drama and interest without being too overpowering.

The Result

The final composite group photo turned out to be a great success. The client was thrilled with the result and now has it showcased on their about page. They also appreciated the collaborative process and how we were able to work together to achieve their vision for the image.
