Capturing Your Individual Style: A Look at South Atlanta Photography Senior Portrait Photography Services

As a professional photography studio, our goal is to capture the best of each individual we work with. Everyone has a unique personality, style, and way they interact with the world around them. South Atlanta Photography strives to capture all of that in our Senior Portrait work.

There are many technical elements that are considered when capturing great Senior Portraits; lighting perspective, wardrobe, props, location, and more. Every aspect of a photoshoot should be carefully chosen to reflect the subject. South Atlanta Photography prides itself on doing a ton of work before your shoot even starts, in order to have all these elements in place before we ever arrive on set to capture our first image.

Two girls wear their cap and gowns for their senior portrait. One is on the lacrosse field, and the other a rooftop in a downtown urban setting.

Lighting is an important aspect of any photoshoot, and we work hard to ensure that the lighting complements the subject's features and style. Whether it's soft and natural or dramatic and bold, we use lighting to create a mood that reflects the subject's personality and style. Beyond mood and style, we also choose lighting that will compliment the subjects physical attributes. For example, we often light more mature women with a large, really soft, almost frontal light source. This light choice decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Where in contrast, a younger woman shows less age on their skin when a bright contrasting light is raked across their face. In fact, this style of lighting is often used in films and fashion lighting to create drama. All of that is to say that lighting is not something that can be prescribed globally across every shoot. It needs to be very much considered, and often is the tell between an amateur and a professional photographer.

Perspective is another important element in capturing an individual's personality and stature. The angle and position of the camera can dramatically change the look and feel of a photo. By manipulating different angles and perspectives, we are able to capture unique shots that showcase the subject's individuality.

Two young adults pose for their senior portraits. One is a young lady in ripped jeans and a flannel sitting on her skateboard with golden light flaring behind her. The other is a young man in layered jackets holding a football and looking confident.

Wardrobe is a key factor in capturing individuals. We work closely with our clients to choose outfits that reflect their personality and style. Whether it's a bold, colorful outfit or a classic, timeless look, we aim to create a cohesive style that reflects the subject's individuality. Though we do want to allow a subject's personality to shine, we also make recommendations for wardrobe choices based on years of experience and seeing what works best on camera.

Props can also be used to enhance a photo shoot and capture an individual's personality. Whether it's a favorite book, a musical instrument, a car, or even a plane, props add an extra layer of personality and meaning to a Senior Session. Further, props can take some of the pressure of posing off of the subject, allowing them something to interact with.

Location is another important factor in capturing individual style. Whether it's a natural outdoor setting, an urban cityscape, or a clean white studio, the location can greatly impact the mood and feel of a photoshoot. By choosing a location that reflects the subject's personality and interests, I'm able to create a photoshoot that truly captures who they are as a person. We have in depth conversations beforehand to decide exactly where we will be shooting. In contrast, we do not choose a location and force our own agenda of convenience on everyone we shoot.

These are just scratching the surface. In addition to the elements discussed, there are many other factors that go into capturing an individual's style and personality. From the poses and expressions, to the post-production and processing techniques used to enhance the final product, every aspect of the photoshoot is carefully considered to reflect the subject's individuality and create the best possible images. If you’re in the south Atlanta area (more specifically Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Senoia, Newnan, etc…) and you’re looking for a great Senior Portrait, we’d love to work with you to create exactly what you need.
