How to Choose the Best Senior Session Photographer (For You)
Choosing a photographer for your child's Senior Session can be an overwhelming decision. These photos will be cherished memories for years to come, so it's important to choose a photographer who can deliver not only high-quality images, but also a positive experience. Below is a list of things to consider to help you choose the right photographer for your child's Senior Session:
Quality of the Product:
This may sound too obvious to list, but you’d be surprised how many times we are contacted by people who have no idea what our work looks like. When choosing a photographer, be sure to look at their portfolio to get an idea of the quality of their work. This is so important. I’m going to write it again. Be sure to look at the photographer's work! Make sure they have experience working with seniors. Are you confident their photos will capture the essence of your child's personality? Make sure the photographer's style matches your vision for your child's Senior Session.
Experience:
A good photographer should be able to put your child at ease and help them feel comfortable in front of the camera. Look for a photographer who has experience working with seniors and who can offer guidance and direction throughout the session. Ask about the photographer's process. What kinds of conversations are had while scheduling and preparing for the shoot? Ask about their turnaround time for delivering the final images for things like yearbook photos that have deadlines.
Available Products for Purchase:
Before booking a photographer, make sure you understand their pricing and what products are included in the packages you are purchasing. Do they offer prints, albums, or digital files? If you are hoping for digitals, make sure that the digital file are available for purchase and the size matches your intended usage expectations. Make sure you understand the photographer's pricing and what you can expect to receive for your investment in the initial package, and what you will need to purchase in addition after the shoot.
Convenience and Price:
While convenience and price are important factors to consider when choosing a photographer, they should not be the only considerations. Convenience may mean a quick and easy session, for example something booked through your school. However, it may not always result in the best product. Similarly, choosing the cheapest option may save money upfront, but it may not result in high-quality photos, nor a positive experience. Senior sessions are important milestones and are typically large investments. It's important to choose a photographer who can deliver a quality product and positive experience, even if it means paying a little more or sacrificing some convenience.
By taking the time to choose the right photographer for your needs, you'll be better equipped to create lasting memories that your family will cherish for years to come.
